On Monday, September 8, 2025 the Plano City Council will vote on the proposed budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2025-2026. This year’s proposed rate is the maximum that the city can increase your property taxes without asking your permission in an election.
If the proposed rate of 44.06 cents passes it will be the largest tax increase in 3 years and cost the average homeowner an additional $248. Apparently, that additional money is not enough for the city. The council also plans on raising your rates for water, trash, sewer, and drainage in next year’s budget. The city also passed a park fee increase and changed their building design standards for new homes. This will make it more expensive to build anything in Plano. At the same time the Council complains the City does not have enough workforce or affordable housing. At the rate the Council is going, Plano will never have workforce or affordable housing. Heck, we wont have any houses for middle-class families ever again. The City Council says they want people to live and work in Plano, but everything they are doing is having the opposite result. According to the City’s own data only 20,000 people who live in Plano work here. Everyone else works somewhere else, and 100,000 people commute into Plano for their jobs. Raising the tax rate to the max will only make it harder for people to live here. Instead, in the proposed budget, the City Council wants to add about $8 million more to the economic development fund. That fund already has about $41 million in it. Instead of adding more money to a fund that is used to bribe large business to move here, the council could take $6 million of the proposed $8 million and make the proposed rate one cent lower to 43.06 cents per 100 square feet of property. They would still have $2 million for their economic fascism. If you can’t afford this tax increase please go to the city council meeting on Monday, Sept. 8, 2025 at 7:00 pm at City Hall and tell them to vote for a lower rate.
